Freedom to Create's arrival in Cape Town

On the 10th November Freedom to Create arrived in Cape Town from Singapore for the start of their celebratory programme of eventsfor the 2011 Freedom to Create Prize. I was very excited to have been invited to join Priti Devi (Vice - President Freedom to Create),  Mariette du Toit - Helmbold (CEO Cape Town Travel), Pieter Cronje (Director of Communications City of Cape Town), Deon Meyer (Criticaly Acclaimed SA Crime Novelist) and The Gugulethu Tenors for the FTC launch Press Conference. It was a wonderful opportunity to speak my artistic practice, my Unlimited Global Alchemy Commision (which received a huge round of applause when I spoke about the commission being part of the London 2012 Festival) and my involvement with Freedom to Create. 

Freedom to Create supports the fundamental principle that a creative society is a prosperous society. Everyone has an innate ability to be creative. But not everyone has the freedom to express their creative ideas and aspirations. Freedom to Create empowers those who seek to use their creativity and the transformative power of the arts as a catalyst for social change.

As you are aware, during the last 20 years I have been very lucky to have been involved with many extraordinary projects, and it has been fantastic to have had the amazing support and encouragement from Freedom to Create this year. Freedom to Create's vision and ethos echos all of the values that motivate me to develop collaborative artistic projects and to reach out to individuals around the Globe so that they too have a voice through creativity. Freedom to Create have invited me to lead one of the creative workshops in collaboration with the Bambanani Group that they are hosting as part of their events in Cape Town which will be showcased at the Fugard Theatre on the 16th Nov. http://www.freedomtocreate.com/prize-2011-workshops-showcase

During the Press Conference we were also given a glimpse of what was to come during the week in Cape Town from The Gugulethu Tenors who's voices sent shivers down our spines as they sang a short glorious exert from the collection of songs they will be performing at the Freedom to Create Prize Ceremony Concert on 19 November 2011 at Kirstenbosch National Botanical Gardens. http://www.freedomtocreate.com/prize-2011-ceremony

I am deeply honoured to be playing a role for Freedom to Create during their 2011 celebrations in Cape Town, their extraordinary, important work around the World gives me great hope and inspiration that their can be a better future for everyone.
