Mamoru Iriguchi


Mamoru Iriguchi ~ Performance Designer

Mamoru originally trained as a zoologist and later as a theatre designer. He also makes his own performances.

Mamoru’s theatre design work includes ‘Mincemeat’ (Cardboard Citizens, Best Design, Evening Standard Theatre Awards 2009), ‘The Wind in the Willows’ (Open Air Theatre Regents Park) and ‘The Pink Bits’ (Mapping4D, Oxford Samuel Beckett Theatre Award).

With the extended knowledge in designing space for live performance and broad interests including 2D and 3D, gender and sexuality, parasitism and symbiosis, and fairytales and evolution theories, Mamoru started to make multimedia performances. His two solo pieces ‘Pregnant?!’, ‘Into the Skirt’ (commissioned by Plateaux Festival 2010, Mousonturm, Frankfurt) and duo dance piece ‘Projector/Conjector’ toured in the UK and abroad. Nikki Tomlinson (Producer of Unlimited Global Alchemy) is one of his regular collaborators who worked as dramaturg for all of his full-length projects. Mamoru also makes intimate and interactive one-to-one performance pieces which were shown in diverse locations including V&A, ICA, Latitude Festival and Brixton Market.

Mamoru’s performance work is introduced in British Council’s Performance in Profile and Arts Council England’s deciBel publications.
